C'mon Spring!

C'mon Spring!

I just heard that snow is in the forecast for this weekend, so I needed a pick-me-up!  Pronto!  I think that yellow is an automatic mood lifter.  Yellow = Happiness(In my book at least.)  Thankfully, I have a Vegas trip booked in a couple weeks.  I need to get out of the Midwest and away from this unpredictable weather.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week - Friday Recap

Favorites from Friday's Fall 2011
Fashion Week shows:

Doo. Ri - RTW
One of my favorite things about Doo. Ri's line is the drape.  ...That gorgeous drape is consistent in all of her collections.  Her pieces always fall so delicately and I think that they're just amazingly flattering on everyone.

Cynthia Rowley - RTW
What's not to love about this collection?  It is just scrumptious - all around.  I especially love  her velvet pieces.  The color palette was well rounded with beautiful orange, yellow, grey and navy tones.  Cynthia has nailed it.  This collection is pulled together with sophistication and class with a fantastic vintage twist.

Jason Wu - RTW
This RTW collection is effortless beauty.  I don't think there was a single piece in the collection that I wouldn't wear.  Stunning.  Each piece has a simple elegance about it. The lines in this collection are clean and contemporary.  I'm usually not into the feminine - masculine looks, but he pulls it off in a big fat gorgeous way.  Each piece is so hot that you just can't take your eyes off.  His eventing gowns are incredibly sexy.  I envy the lucky ladies who gets to wear them.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week - Thursday Recap

Despite the vicious winter that New York has undergone, Fall 2011 Fashion week kicked off today with a bang. The line up is lenghty, so I'll touch on a few of my personal favorites:

Luca Luca - RTW:
This collection was stunning. I loved the rich colors.  Lots of red, orange, and mustard -  which is common in the Fall, but these were not your standard "Fall orange, red, yellow" colors. The collection was so feminine.  The pieces are reminiscent of the 50's - with a modern twist.  This influence was also carried over in the up dos and red lipstick.

Richard Chai - RTW:
In a word, this collection was Beautiful.  The palette was neutral across the board.  The pieces were simple with gorgeous tailored silhouettes. There was a dressy/bohemian feel - which I loved!  The collection is so wearable.  It's no surprise that Richard Chai has such a huge celebrity following - he is extremely talented.  I loved the mix of fabrics that he uses in his collections.

Steven Alan - RTW:
There was a serious vintage feel going on here.  Not only was this collection "Off The Charts Amazing"...it was also accessorized very well.  Let's just say they pulled this show off with all I's dotted and all T's crossed! - And it showed!  I loved all the hats, belts, shoes, gloves, and bags.  These accessories really pulled everything together.  There was a great mix of casual & classy in his collection.  I've always been attracted to fun patterns and he had quite a few.  I heart all the florals, stripes, & animal prints.

...And the good news is that today was just the first. There are many more shows to come. I can hardly wait!

Kick off to Fashion Week 2011

As Fashion week get's started here is a hint of the top color trends to be on the lookout for during the Fall 2011 season. At first glance the colors seem more Spring/Summer to me then Fall, so I'm really excited to see how these hues get translated into the clothing. You can read more on this at WWD.

Modelgeddon: Where Versace Fashion Meets the Armageddon

This was actually posted back in November, but I just fell upon it, so I thought I would share.  ...Warning:  This video is ridiculously dumb and slightly disturbing, as the buildings crumbling in the background look vaguely familiar.  Really?  C'mon, we know you can do better.  The message...whatever it may be, is weak - because I don't get it.

Cat Walks - Paris Highlights: Spring 2011 RTW

Christmas is over....but sadly, Winter isn't and it's freezing out. So Peeps, ...I need to bring some heat....and what better place to turn?....Style.com:  The Spring 2011 RTW highlights from Paris!  Hola!  If this  doesn't warm you up, then I don't know what will.

Doutzen Kroes & Her Grandma For Douwe Egberts Coffee

Cocoperez.com
This is in Dutch....so allow me to translate.  It's a short, simple, storyline: Supermodel/Victoria's Secret Model, Doutzen Kroes arrives at her Grandmother's house to show her vacation pics. She runs to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee meanwhile Grandma flips through the photos. While admiring the pictures, Grandma gets this brilliant idea that her granddaughter, Doutzen should be a model....and Ta-Da....a model is born.

Merry & Bright

Merry & Bright
Hi lovelies....It's Party Time!  Do you have your dress yet?  I'm pretty sure that every girl likes to play dress up.  I can't speak for the entire female population, but I know I do.  You have to take advantage of the opportunities you get to dress up and feel like a princess.  Christmas is just a couple of weeks away and the parties have already started...so If you haven't gotten your Holiday dress yet...go get it. Time is ticking!

No party to go to?  ...No biggy - you can still grab your man or girlfriends, get dressed up and paint the town red.

Go on! Release your inner princess!

Cheers!

Wardrobe Must: Knit Sweaters

Chunky Knits?  Yes Please!  ...Under $100?  I'll take three.
One of my favorite things about Fall/Winter is wrapping myself up in a huge chunky knit sweater.  Who, What, Wear....knows what's up!  .... You don't have to spend an arm and a leg to look fabulous.  All of these sweaters are under $100!
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and Christmas is right around the corner.  Sounds like a great excuse to treat yourself to an early Christmas present.  You deserve it!

What would Pat Field do?

What would Patricia Field do?
Hang on to your Manolo's...because I'm about to find out!

Photography: Mike Ruiz / Myspace

My husband and I are planning a trip to New York in December.  We love NYC so we try to make a trip there at least once a year.  My husband planned the most romantic proposal for me in New York's Central Park...so the city will always be a special place to visit.

We have our favorite places to go and things to do while we're there, but NYC is just too amazing to stick to your favorites every time you go.  Besides that, we just love digging into culture, exploring fun sights and experiencing new restaurants.

Turns out I fell upon this fun article that was written back in October for the New York Post.  In the article, Patricia Field shares some of her favorite things about New York.  I'm going to mix up our December trip and try to visit some of Pat Field's favorites.  ...Should be fun!  When in Rome.... or rather when in NY...do as Pat Field would do.

....So, without further ado...
Here is Pat Field's New York:
1. Il Posto Acanto, 190 Second St., between avenues A and B
“Beatrice, the owner, has made this one of my favorite places. She’s Roman and serves the most delicious homemade pastas and breads. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly and personal. It’s like you’re in Italy: The owner is there giving you food, saying hello. I go there often on the weekends for brunch.”

2. Patricia Field, 302 Bowery, between Houston and Bleecker streets
“I opened my shop when I was in my 20s. It’s now 40 years old and still there — I’m very proud of it. I’m especially proud of the crew who runs it; they’re doing good. I walk in there and feel like the grandmother visiting my grandchildren.”

3. Il Buco, 47 Bond St., between Lafayette Street and Bowery
“I eat there at least once or twice a week. It’s all about organic food. There’s a page [in the menu] about all the different olive oils. I love it. The food is delightful and it’s only a block and a half away from me. I can eat there without making it a big trip.”

4. Frock, 170 Elizabeth St., between Spring and Kenmare streets
“For most people, this boutique is still a secret. I go in there for a project and then I find something for myself. Their focus is late ’80s-’90s, and the selection is really great. I love their taste.”

5. Chinatown
“When I was a kid, it was three blocks, and now it has these tentacles all over downtown. It’s a jewel in this city. You go there and it’s filled with people. The food is fresh and not processed, there’s acupuncture and massages. You can pick up home furnishings — I have these huge red lanterns that open up like a fan, and they’re totally affordable and look gorgeous.”

6. Century 21, 22 Cortlandt St., between Broadway and Church streets
“What can I say? The price and selection are great, and they have samples that have never been made. I’ve been shopping there forever, so it’s always a part of my palette. Lots of pieces from ‘Sex and the City’ have come from there. They open at 7:45 a.m., and that’s the best time to go because the store is in order and there are no people there. Between then and noon, it’s golden.”

7. INA, 101 Thompson St., between Spring and Prince streets
“This consignment shop is favorite haunt of mine where I found an iconic, a 1970s vintage fur coat while shopping with SJP. She wears it throughout the series and in the movie (above.) I’ve been going there since at least the mid-’90s. You can always find something that’s one of a kind.Items might be from last season or from five years ago, but they won’t be recognizable.”

8. Rockaway Beach
“I bought an apartment there four years ago. It’s a stunning drive. You arrive in 25 minutes and the ocean’s right there! I think people who live there year-round feel like it’s their secret. As a child, my family went there. We’d alternate: one Saturday Jones Beach, one Saturday Rockaway Beach. It was just one of my favorite places. I’m going to make it my retreat over there with a Jacuzzi and steam room.”

9. Agnanti, 19-06 Ditmars Blvd., Astoria, Queens
“This place is kind of tucked away, but I’ve been going for years. Sometimes we’ll go after work, or when my Greek friends are in town. It’s Greek, but with a Turkish style of food. The space is rustic, not fancy, but the food is delicious; The fried eggplant is fabulous; the seafood is gorgeous, their lamb — they use a lot of yogurt. It’s very traditional.”

Black is the new Black

Black is the new Black

I can't help but laugh when fashion magazines claim that Brown, Navy - or what have you, is the "NEW Black".  It inevitably get's published somewhere every year.  Let's be honest no other color will ever replace black. Black will always be Black. Why do they insist on trying to replace Black? Isn't Black a staple for every wardrobe?  For me it's a mainstay. ...And when I'm stumped on what to wear, it's nice to know that I can just fall back on something black and still feel chic.  One thing is for sure...Black is not going away & it never will.

Belated....NY Fashion Week

ModCloth @ NYFW from ModCloth on Vimeo.

Attending NYC fashion week is just one of the many items on my bucket list. This video was posted awhile back on ModCloth, but I just came across it and liked it so I thought I'd share it with the rest of the fashionistas out there. Enjoy! ModCloth Rocks!

Love is a Battlefield

Love is a Battlefield
Military Chic!
Fortunately for me love isn't a battlefield...but it's a great song and a fun title for this military inspired post. I'm a "girly-girl". I don't really care much for masculine clothes for myself, unless we're talking Military inspired....That's a different story. I really like the dark, earthy green and brown tones. ...And the bronze buttons are hot too. I believe that you can pull off the military look while maintaining your femininity at the same time. There is something very chic about those tailored waistlines and v-neck jackets.

WWD celebrates 100 Years!

NEW YORK | WWD picks 100 designers who shaped fashion | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC
WWD celebrated 100 years! This is one of my favorite blog entries to date - just because I love WWD and I think that it's a phenomenal publication.

The Herald sums up the celebration so click on the link above to catch up on that.

...But what is even cooler is this story I found on WWD's website: http://www.wwd.com/eyescoop/wwd-100-years-3343261 Normally, I wouldn't consider myself much of a history buff...but these 10 moments are pretty interesting.

On..another note, here are some of the faces seen at the party.

Cheers to 100 more Fashion Fabulous years, WWD!
